Sore throat, often accompanied by fever and chills, has its roots in either viral or bacterial infection. The influenza virus is the most common viral cause, while streptococcus, mycoplasma, or hemophilus are common bacterial culprits. Dietarily, drinking plenty of water and fluids can be of help, but eating solid food can be a challenge for someone suffereing from a sore throat. Best choices are chicken noodle or matzoh ball soup (both yummy, nourishing and diaphoretic [aka sweat-inducing]), and other healthy soft foods.
If the fever is not too high (beyond 102F), do your best to avoid using products like acetominaphen or ibuprofin to reduce fever. The immune response is boosted by this increase in body temperature, and reducing temperature can inhibit the body from doing what it needs to fight the infection. MH4K's Sore Throat works to reduce fever by combatting the pathogen and opening the pores to allow the body to vent that heat more quickly.
